Welcome to Roy Precious - Antiques & Fine Art

Specialist in portraiture from the 16th to the 20th century.

A portrait is not just an image of someone else's relative, it is a unique art form.

Some of the greatest works of art are portraits, painted by luminaries such as Rubens, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Gainsborough, Holbein, Van Dyck, Durer...the list goes on...and let us not forget what is, perhaps, the most famous - Da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa'.

A portrait offers something that words cannot. When the identity of the sitter is known it adds a new dimension to their history; when the identity of the sitter is lost it can still stand alone as a window into the past. Portraits remind the viewer that they too were flesh and blood in their time and space as we are in ours.

From the Renaissance to the present day, portraiture tells an unrivalled story of individual lives and changing times.

"Here's looking at you, kid" Humphrey Bogart, 'Casablanca' 1942.
